The goal of calendar integrations is to create a great experience booking mentorship Sessions with your Matching, while simultaneously providing the reporting capabilities administrators need to effectively manage their program. Simply having Sessions booked through your regular client would not allow for effective reporting.
When two Users are integrated and matched together, they can:
- See the exact times the other person is available
- See the other person's busy times
- See their own availability
- Auto-add a conference link
If neither Users are matched, none of the features will be available, and Users will only see time slots to book into without insight into what date and times are actually available.

Two Ways to Integrate
There are two ways to integrate Together with work calendars:
- (Recommended) Domain-wide integration: Consent to permissions on all User calendars at once.
- Individual integration: End Users consent to permissions on their own calendars one at a time.
We usually recommend customers to perform a domain-wide integration for the following reasons:
- Domain-wide integration removes User friction of having to consent to and install the integration when signing up
- Domain-wide integration prevents a mixed experience where only one person out of two in a mentorship Match is integrated. All features won't be available in this case.
Permissions
To support all the features above, we request the following permissions:
- Read calendars
- Write calendars
This is the most granularity we can request on the Office 365 and Google for Work platforms.

Calendar Integration Status
Admins can now view the calendar integration status for Users directly from the Users table. This allows Admins to quickly identify which users have connected their calendars and which Users have not. This information is especially helpful when your organization is using individual integrations rather than a domain-wide integration.
Viewing Calendar Integration Status for Users
The Calendar Integration status is available as a column in the Users table. This column is hidden by default and must be enabled manually before it becomes visible.
- Navigate to the Users page in the admin interface.
-
Select the Columns icon at the top of the table.
- Search for Calendar Integration in the Search Column Options box.
-
Enable the Calendar Integration column.
- Select Save Settings.
Once enabled, the table will display the integration status for each User in your organization.
The Calendar Integration column helps Admins monitor adoption of calendar integrations across their organization.
- Identify Users who have not yet integrated their calendar.
- Encourage those Users to complete the integration for a better scheduling experience.
- Verify that integrations are functioning correctly when troubleshooting scheduling issues.
This visibility is particularly helpful if your organization is using individual calendar integrations, where Users must authorize their own calendars rather than having the integration applied at the domain level.
Calendar Integration Status Values
The Calendar Integration column displays the type of integration currently connected to each User’s account.
- Google - Domain: The User’s Google Calendar is connected through a domain-wide integration.
- Outlook - Domain: The User’s Outlook calendar is connected through a domain-wide integration.
- Outlook - Domain Free/Busy Only: The domain integration provides access to free/busy availability only.
- Outlook - Individual: The User has individually connected their Outlook calendar.
If a User has not connected their calendar and your organization is not using a domain-wide integration, this column may appear blank.
Limited Permission Integration (Free/Busy Only)
Together also offers a limited permission integration option for Microsoft Outlook/Office 365 that retrieves only free/busy availability from User calendars rather than full event details.
This option is intended for organizations with strict privacy requirements that do not allow applications to access meeting metadata such as event titles, descriptions, or attendee lists. While more limited than the standard calendar integration, it still allows Users to view each other’s availability when scheduling mentorship Sessions.
Important Limitations
The Free/Busy Only integration provides limited functionality compared to the standard calendar integration and should generally be used only when full calendar access cannot be granted.
Available for Microsoft Outlook/Office 365 only.
Requires the Microsoft Graph permission Calendar.ReadBasic.All.
Must be installed as a domain-wide integration and applies to all Users.
Enabling this integration replaces any existing read/write calendar integrations.
Automatic video conferencing links (for example, Microsoft Teams) are not added to meetings.
Meeting invitations are sent as an .ICS calendar attachment.
Sessions cannot be rescheduled directly from Outlook and must be modified in Together.
With this integration enabled, Together can still retrieve the free/busy status of participants to help identify mutually available meeting times. However, because write permissions are not granted, certain features such as updating calendar events or automatically adding conferencing details are not available.
This configuration is not enabled by default and must be activated by the Together Support team. If your organization would like to use the Free/Busy Only integration, please submit a request to Together Support for assistance.
Feature Deep Dive: Free/Busy Schedules
When booking mentorship Sessions, we show free/busy slots for yourself and your Match, to create a comparable experience to booking an event in your native calendar client.
Feature Deep Dive: Events in Calendar
Sending an invite through Together will block off time in your calendar natively and add your Match as a participant.
